E-mail from Linda Holland 5 Nov 2001:

Tom, thanks for responding. If you are researching the Renville family,
the
book I mentioned is a good source. There are pictures of Gabriel Renville or
Tiwakan, meaning Sacred Lodge, born 4/1825. His parents were Victor Renville
and Winona Crawford, both mixed breeds. Victor's brother-in-law was Joseph
R.Brown. Victor led the Sisseton Reservation delegation to Washington, D.C
to negotiate and sign the Treaty of 1867. There is a lot more information, I
just don't know what you have and don't want to give you stuff you already
have. As for Rosalie I don't have any more information, other than she
married Jean-Baptiste Campbell. Baptiste was hung in 1862 for his part in
the Minnestota Dakota Souix uprising. I have no information that they ever
had any children. It is very possible that Rosalie remarried after
Baptiste's death. The Campbell's are a colorfull group. Fur Traders who
emmigrated from Ireland/Scotland to Canada to Wisconsin and then Minnesota.
Let me know what information you have and if I can I'm happy to fill in some
blanks. Looks like the Campbell's and Renville's were very intertwined. I
show Alexander Duncan Campbell married Marguerite Renville, is she part of
your group? I will keep looking for information on Rosalie, if I find any
thing, I'll let you know, please let me know if want any more information I
may have. Thanks, Linda

Jean was killed as an Indian in the infamous mass execution in Mankato, MN on December 28, 1862.
