Icke Wicasta: The Common People Journal by Florestine Renville German, granddaughter of Gabriel Renville; fall 1998, pp. 5-12, states:

"Joseph Renville Sr. married a member of Big Thunder's Kaposia family and she was given the name of Mary. They joined Dr. Stephen R. Rigg's mission church in 1841 at Laq Qui Parle. In 1837, Joseph Renville Sr. and Dr. Thomas S. Williamson had translated the Bible from French into the Dakota language...The descendants of Joseph Renville Sr. became active leaders and members of the Presbyterian Church. Joseph Renville Jr.’s son, Joseph III, became an elder, and his brother, Rev. Daniel Renville, served the Dakota Presbyterian churches on the Lake Traverse Reservation until his death on October 19, 1909. Antoine Renville also was an elder and his son was the Rev. Isaac Renville, who served as pastor of the Dakota Long Hollow Presbyterian Church from 1886 until his death in 1919. John Baptiste Renville was ordained in 1865 and served as the pastor of the Dakota Ascension Church at Big Coulee from 1870 until 1900.”
