bullet  General Notes:

From a family file at Ancestry.com

Due to confusion between his father and another man with the same name, this David Hunter Jr.'s life has gone virtually unnoticed by Hunter genealogists who mistakenly trace lineage through the other man's son. This David Hunter Jr.'s birthdate is clearly established on the 1810 Johnstown District census for South Gower Twp. as 1799. He is almost a generation younger than the man he is frequently confused with. The other fellow's gravestone is in the Dacre Memorial Cemetery establishes his year of birth as 1779.

However, this David Hunter Jr. lived out a full life in South Gower and Oxford where his family lands straddled both townships. He lost his wife, May relatively earlier but never remarried. His grave has yet to be re-located although May is buried in the South Gower Cemetery. Among his neighbours were his half-sister Margaret, wife of Eli Quackenbush and the McCargers, his sister Jane's in-laws.

In the Perkins Bull collection available at the Ontario Archives there is an essay that uses David Hunter Jr. to illustrate early trade and travel in the province of Upper Canada.
